MR. ALEKSANDR VOLGAREV, DEPUTY PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE Of THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION OSCE PERMANENT COUNCIL

“The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was established by the UN General Assembly in 2000.

Despite the efforts made to raise awareness and unite the world community in the fight against this pervasive issue, it is disheartening to note that no significant progress has been achieved thus far. The underlying causes of violence against women, such as poverty, unemployment, and institutional barriers, continue to persist.

It is imperative that all OSCE participating States, civil society organizations, and international structures come together to improve the status of women. This requires a concerted and long-term effort to address the root causes of violence and ensure the fulfillment of commitments made in this regard.

I am proud to say that eradicating violence against women is a top priority for Russia, both domestically and internationally. The recent fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum, held in September of this year, served as a clear example of our commitment to advancing the women’s agenda.

Additionally, the National Strategy of Action for Women until 2030 underscores our dedication to achieving the goals set forth in this area.

As we reflect on the importance of this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to working towards a world where women are free from violence and discrimination.
