A Fair and Inclusive Economy

In the past weeks, a good number of medium sized companies urged me to write about the growing concerns surrounding crony capitalism in our country.

They expressed their concerns in this issue, and there is a strong desire for more discussion related to this.

But, what is crony capitalism?

Crony capitalism refers to a situation in which certain businesses thrive not as a result of their competitive practices and success in the marketplace, but rather due to a close relationship with government officials or other influential individuals. This is leading to unfair advantages for the small and medium sized businesses.

Greed is not good. It’s a destructive force that can have serious consequences on individuals, societies, and even nations. It’s leading certain local companies to prioritize their own desires over the well-being of others, resulting in unethical behavior and harm to those around them. By focusing solely on accumulating wealth and power, these companies driven by greed disregard moral principles and engage in harmful actions that can lead to destabilize our community and the entire country.

Crony capitalism is indeed a significant challenge that these companies are facing. Certain companies unfairly benefit from their close relationships with the  government officials at the expense of the rest. This is hindering fair competition and innovation in the economy. It’s leading to wealth and power being concentrated in the hands of a few, rather than being distributed more equitably among everyone.

Our country needs level playing field where businesses can compete based on merit and innovation. It’s essential for fostering economic growth and ensuring that rewards are distributed more fairly.

I recommend the authorities to create a more open and competitive economic environment. The government needs to work towards the ideal of a fair and inclusive economy where hard work and talent are truly rewarded.
