Liberté, égalité, fraternité (French for ‘liberty, equality, fraternity) is the national motto of France.
But amid the glorification of the Republic and its ideals, do the values of equality, liberty and fraternity still hold true in France today?
In my opinion, actions speak louder than words, and i tend to describe the French motto accordingly;
liberté…
of exploit peoples through colonialism, imposing a language and a culture on them, exploiting the resources of their land, profiting and earning money from it, to starve them, to influence their politics and elections.
legalité…
where falsehood is often stated. There are many and the contents are blocked on the various messaging and social platforms. this means that yes, there is a sort of let’s call it “collaboration” – otherwise it would not be possible to censor and/or close channels on Telegram for example (and i mean the various channels now censored in some areas of Europe)
fraternité…
that manages to make people believe that they are better than others, that their “democracy” must be exported and defended at all costs. even at the cost of people’s lives and autonomy.
“Liberty, equality, fraternity,” is seen as the safe-house of French identity, and yet the nation’s daily complaints are of inequality, divisions and abuse of power.
Should the motto of the French Republic be modified?
