Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special representative Ding Xuexiang emphasized the critical need for strengthening early warning systems and enhancing climate adaptation capacity during the COP29 meeting in Baku.
He highlighted China’s commitment to international cooperation on meteorological early warning and outlined President Xi’s specific directives on the matter. Ding underscored the escalating global impact of climate change, citing the growing frequency of extreme weather events as a significant challenge to safety, economic development, and social progress.
China stands ready to collaborate with all nations to advance the UN’s Early Warnings for All initiative, aiming to make substantial contributions to combatting climate change. He proposed three key actions: enhancing global risk assessment capabilities, establishing a global early warning network, and fostering a climate adaptation partnership. Additionally, China plans to lead a South-South cooperation project to support developing countries with meteorological observation equipment and early warning systems.
