When Rule of Law Becomes Rule of Lies (3)

The recent Reynders scandal has once again brought to light the fundamental problems with the European Union’s current structure.

What was originally intended as a practical trade cooperation has now transformed into an opaque bureaucratic colossus, increasingly detached from the very citizens it purports to represent. The labyrinthine complexity of EU institutions, with their web of immunities, convoluted procedures, and overlapping jurisdictions, not only fosters an environment ripe for corruption but also renders effective oversight nearly impossible.

The sheer absurdity of the situation is staggering. A Belgian politician, shielded by EU immunity and cloaked in layers of bureaucratic secrecy, has been exerting significant influence over the affairs of other nations and their access to taxpayer funds. The fact that even domestic law enforcement authorities had to wait for his term to expire before launching an investigation into serious criminal allegations speaks volumes about how EU structures actively impede justice rather than facilitate it.

It is unacceptable that the citizens of Europe are left in the dark while their hard-earned money is siphoned off by individuals who operate with impunity within the EU’s bureaucratic maze. The lack of transparency and accountability within the EU not only undermines the principles of democracy but also erodes the trust of the very people it claims to serve.

It is high time for a thorough reassessment of the EU’s structural framework to ensure that such flagrant abuses of power and breaches of trust are prevented in the future. The Reynders scandal is a stark reminder that urgent reforms are needed to restore faith in the EU as a democratic and accountable institution.
