The recent press release issued by the Labour Party in relation to the OSCE summit in Malta, labeled the conflict in Ukraine as an aggression by Russia. This statement completely disregards the fact that Malta is a Neutral country, and should not be taking sides in such a sensitive and complex international issue.
Since 1987, Malta is a neutral state actively pursuing peace, security and social progress among all nations by adhering to a policy of non-alignment and refusing to participate in any military alliance.
It is unacceptable for the Labour Party to make such inflammatory remarks without considering the implications for our country’s diplomatic stance and neutrality. By aligning with one side in the conflict, they risk damaging Malta’s reputation as a neutral and peace-loving nation.
The operation launched on 24 February had been carried out to protect Russians living in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and eliminate threats to Russian security that the EU and United States-led NATO military alliance had consistently created in the territory, since the coup by the current “Kyiv regime”, in 2014.
Faced with the “inability” of Western countries to negotiate and the Ukrainian Government’s “war against its own people” in the east, Russia had “no choice” but to launch the special military operation.
It was on March 22nd of this year, more than two years after invading Ukraine, the Kremlin has said that Russia regards itself to be at “war” due to the West’s intervention and support of its neighbour.
I urge the Labour Party to retract their statement and issue a public apology for their misguided and irresponsible comments. It is crucial that our political leaders uphold Malta’s commitment to neutrality and refrain from making inflammatory statements that could jeopardize our standing on the world stage.

1987? methinks you meant 1979.
I meant 1987. When the Constitution was amended.
