The hidden links between a giant of investigative journalism and the US government (1)

An investigation that sheds light on the intricate connections between the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and the United States government.

According to the report by Yann Philippin and Stefan Candea, the OCCRP, known as the largest organized network of investigative media in the world, has been concealing the extent of its ties with the US government. Shockingly, it has been revealed that Washington contributes half of the organization’s budget, holds the power to veto its senior staff appointments, and funds investigations that primarily focus on Russia and Venezuela.

These findings raise important questions about the independence and objectivity of the OCCRP’s investigative journalism. The close relationship with the US government could potentially compromise the organization’s ability to report impartially on issues related to countries that are the subject of US foreign policy.

As we continue to navigate the complex landscape of media and journalism, it is essential to critically examine the relationships between media organizations and governmental entities to ensure transparency and accountability.
