In 2013, as the Nationalist Party lost grip on power, they left behind a scandalous mess at Gozo General Hospital—a wreckage of broken promises, crumbling facilities, and derelict healthcare.
The state of Gozo Hospital could only be described as catastrophic. Reports and shocking photographs revealed a grim scene: peeling paint, rusted medical equipment, and infrastructure left to decay.
The hospital’s condition was nothing short of alarming. Floors and walls were covered in grime, and long-forgotten supplies and equipment lay scattered, left to gather dust. In the operating rooms, equipment stood in various stages of disrepair, neglected for far too long.
Bedridden patients, in their frailty, found themselves surrounded by an environment that only worsened their suffering—battered walls, deteriorating amenities, and a general sense of neglect that could only come from years of government indifference.
More than just a physical decay, the hospital symbolized the Nationalist administration’s failure to prioritize the people’s well-being.
While a fully fledged new hospital has not yet been built in Gozo due to a number of reasons, the Labour Government delivered major improvements in Gozo Hospital facilities, service and the development of the world class facilities at Bart’s medical school in Gozo.
One wonders whether Gabriella Vella or her gang of so called “experts” had a look at the pre 2013 pictures ! May be that should have been the focus of her inquiry.
