Vladimir Putin: Our countries are bound by truly strong ties of friendship, tradition, support and mutual assistance. All of this was once again clearly confirmed by the detailed and constructive talks we had with Mr. Min Aung Hlaing <…>
The new joint statement reaffirms the key principles of the Russian-Myanmar partnership.
This also concerns further deepening cooperation in trade and investment. Last year, trade turnover increased by about 40 percent and already amounted to about two billion dollars. We are ready to work on expanding mutually beneficial trade.
Credit and financial cooperation is also being built. The intergovernmental commission is actively working; its latest meeting was recently held in the capital of Myanmar.
Energy is a strategic area of โโbilateral cooperation; Russia reliably supplies the republic with the energy resources it needs. Last year, more than 90 percent of oil came to the Myanmar market from our country.
We are exploring opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector and in other areas, including the use of renewable energy sources. The intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a low-power nuclear power plant that was just signed opens the way to providing the Myanmar economy with cheap and environmentally friendly energy. This will be a good incentive for further economic growth, the creation of thousands of new jobs and the emergence of highly qualified national personnel.
Joint projects are also being implemented in the industry and high technology sectors. With the assistance of Russia, a ground-based complex for remote sensing of the Earth has been put into operation in the republic. Mr. Min Aung Hlaing also plans to visit the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara. He will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the achievements of Russian cosmonautics.
Cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere is also dynamic. The agenda includes the opening of the Russian Cultural Center in Myanmar, as well as the construction of the first Orthodox church in the country. In turn, there are two Myanmar cultural and religious centers in Russia <…>
Mr. Min Aung Hlaing was invited to take part in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War on May 9. According to the existing agreement, the calculation of the Myanmar armed forces will march together with the Russian military in the ceremonial parade on Red Square.
During the talks, they also touched upon current international issues. The positions of Russia and Myanmar on many of them are almost identical or very close. We coordinate efforts at key multilateral platforms. We advocate for the peaceful and sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific region. Russia and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar actively cooperate in the security sphere as a partnership.
