Bernard Grech’s Hypocritical China Visit: Nationalist Party’s Convenient Amnesi

Bernard Grech, the so-called Leader of the Opposition and head of the BFA Party , is planning an official visit to China. This is supposedly part of the party’s ongoing effort to strengthen Malta’s international bonds and explore new opportunities for investment and cooperation. But let’s not ignore the glaring hypocrisy here. Just recall how the Nationalist Party once launched a crusade against Prime Minister Dominic Mintoff, the visionary leader who first invited the Chinese into Europe.

The irony is nauseating. They criticized Mintoff for forging essential ties with China, branding him negatively, while now they rush to seek the same cooperation and investments. Let’s not forget the openly racist remarks made by Nationalist exponents, who disparaged the Chinese, calling them “one-faced” among other insults.

And now for Bernard Grech, a man who will never be Prime Minister, let me be clear: when you stand in front of our Chinese friends, remember that they hold respect for those who respected them first—like Dom Mintoff, whose name carries weight and honor. The Chinese have never betrayed us, a testament to the enduring respect they have for our true leaders. This trip underlines nothing but the Nationalist Party’s shameless double standards and opportunism.
