Over the past few years, we have witnessed a systematic attempt to weaponize magisterial inquiries for partisan political purposes. At the center of this manipulation is the Electrogas inquiry — an investigation that began with loud accusations and media fanfare but is now collapsing under the weight of its own falsehoods, misdirection, and selective evidence.
Today, Times of Malta journalist Jacob Borg published yet another misleading article designed to serve the Establishment’s political narrative. Borg, who has repeatedly acted as a mouthpiece for those who resisted progress, seems increasingly desperate to resuscitate a case that is clearly failing. The article presents a distorted view of ongoing court proceedings, ignoring context, omitting critical facts, and relying on leaked selective extracts that serve a singular agenda.
Let’s be clear: the Electrogas inquiry has been irreparably tainted by the flawed and biased work of Harbinson Forensics — the same experts who the inquiring magistrate relied on without scrutiny. Seasoned lawyers have explained that these experts have not only failed to present a balanced and accurate account, but have actively suppressed exculpatory evidence that undermines their conclusions.

The compilation of evidence in court paints a very different picture from the one being pushed by the media. As those following the proceedings closely are aware, the testimonies, documents, and expert reports are riddled with contradictions, and the so-called “evidence” against former Labour Minister Dr. Konrad Mizzi, former PM’s Chief of Staff Keith Schembri, Brian Tonna, Karl Cini and private entrepreneurs is inexistent when exposed to legal and factual scrutiny.
Even more troubling is the continued refusal of Jeremy Harbinson — the lead forensic “expert” — to testify in court. After raking in an astounding €20 million from Maltese taxpayers, Harbinson remains silent, hiding behind excuses. Why? Because he knows that under cross-examination, his flimsy reports and selective analysis will not hold up. His credibility is on the line — and he is dodging accountability.

In the coming days, I will continue to fact check Jacob Borg. I will also examine how Mr Borg obtained selective leaks from expert reports — and who facilitated this breach of confidentiality and judicial process.
The Maltese people deserve transparency, not a politically motivated witch hunt. The abuse of our justice system for vendettas, enabled by partisan media and foreign “experts” with hidden agendas, must be stopped.
The shift from Oil fired power generation to Gas and renewables was a major achievement by the Labour Government and the PN have tried and will continue to do everything possible to destroy this strategic initiative. The truth will continue to come out — and the PN’s house of cards will collapse.
