Highlighting Hypocrisy: Andrew Azzopardi’s Take on Passport Scheme Amid Personal Gains

Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, the champion of integrity, the beacon of earnestness in Maltese society, is at it again!

Following the European Court’s condemnation of the Maltese Government’s passport sale scheme, dear Prof. Azzopardi, with his iconic braces reminiscent of his idols Austin Gatt and Manuel Delia, has graced us with his expert commentary on Facebook, pretending not to comprehend the situation.

Andrew Azzopardi

It’s almost as if he’s unaware that many companies, especially the well-off Nationalist ones, have profited handsomely from this very scheme. Perhaps he needs a reminder: Malta has raked in more than €1.4 billion, which, in his bewilderment, he seems to overlook.

Andrew Azzopardi, have you spoken with those companies? Maybe they’d be kind enough to explain just how strenuous the process really is. Meanwhile, the funds have provided substantial investments in social housing, health, education, environment, and sports, not to mention shielding thousands of Maltese and Gozitan jobs during the pandemic. But let’s not get facts in the way of your delightful act.

Now, isn’t it curious, Professor, that your daughter was quite the star at the ‘Games of the Small States of Europe’ in 2023, bringing home three shiny gold medals. Impressive, truly. And, as you’re well aware, each medal fetched her €10,000 courtesy of the Maltese Government, or should we say, the very citizenship program you appear to snub? That’s a tidy €30,000, isn’t it?

During the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2023, Claire Azzopardi won 3 gold medals.

Since you’re such an advocate for transparency and honest politics, will you, dear Andrew, encourage your daughter to return that sum to the government, given its origins? Perhaps now’s your time to shine as an exemplar of anti-hypocrisy, unless, of course, that’s a bit too demanding. Prove us wrong, if you dare!
