In the sun-drenched streets of Malta, if there’s one name that often rings out as a paragon of virtue, it would be none other than Prof. Andrew Azzopardi.
This so-called “champion of integrity” and “beacon of earnestness” has somehow found himself ensnared in a web of his own making, tangled up in the very hypocrisy he claims to detest.
Enter daughter Claire Azzopardi, a shining star on the athletics stage. Known for her prowess in long jump and triple jump, Claire has thrice leapt into victory at the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe, earning three gold medals. A remarkable achievement indeed, but what’s that glistening on the horizon if not a storm of suspicion clouding her father’s so-called integrity?

During the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2023, Claire Azzopardi won 3 gold medals.
Here’s the heart of the scandal: Claire’s success also brought her a windfall of €30,000, courtesy of the Maltese Government. This bounty, intriguingly enough, comes from the very passport sales scheme that pumped over €1.4 billion into Malta’s coffers — the scheme Prof. Azzopardi now daringly criticizes on social media. The hypocrisy is stark, as striking as the Mediterranean sun.
Prof. Azzopardi, who endlessly sermonizes on transparency and upright politics, seems to have conveniently looked the other way when that tidy sum was deposited into his daughter’s bank account. Now, if the good professor truly embodies the values he so vociferously preaches, shouldn’t he have advised Claire to return this tainted money to its source?

Andrew Azzopardi
We at this publication are not letting Prof. Azzopardi off the hook so easily. As long as he persists in his pretentious charade, masquerading criticism of the Maltese Government’s policies while silently pocketing the rewards, we’ll continue to strip away the facade until the truth is laid bare. It’s time for Andrew Azzopardi to decide whether he stands for rhetoric or reality.
One thing is certain: we will not be silenced, and this spotlight on hypocrisy will remain blazing until justice echoes through every street of Malta. Prof. Azzopardi, the ball’s in your court — or should we say, your lecture hall. It’s time to truly teach by example, unless, of course, practicing what you preach is too much of a stretch.
