Julian Delia’s recent article, “Silence cannot withstand the deafening loudness of the truth,” isn’t journalism. It’s political theatre — another attempt to canonize Daphne Caruana Galizia while weaponizing her death against Malta’s institutions.
Let’s stop pretending this is about justice.
Delia romanticizes Daphne’s legacy with the usual sainthood treatment, all while ignoring a critical fact: she repeatedly refused police protection. Not once. Not twice. She declined every offer made by the State, believing she was untouchable. That decision, arrogant as it was, had fatal consequences.

Daphne Caruana Galizia
No one justifies murder. But we reject the moral blackmail pushed by people like Delia, who exploit tragedy to maintain their own relevance. His eulogy praises the recent guilty verdicts — which confirm that criminals, not politicians, orchestrated her murder. And yet, he still hints at some shadowy “power structure” behind it all, without proof, without accountability, without shame.
This is not journalism. It’s conspiracy dressed up as martyrdom.
To Delia and his ilk, Malta is a country supposedly ruled by impunity and corruption. Never mind the convictions, the public inquiry, the reforms, or the ongoing trials. Those facts are inconvenient. Better to keep the outrage machine running than admit that justice is being delivered.
Let’s be blunt. Daphne’s name has become political currency. A tool. A banner under which certain activists and journalists attack every institution that doesn’t bend to their script. Her murder has become a permanent excuse to delegitimize a government they loathe.
And while Delia laments a weakened fourth estate, he ignores the truth: it is journalists like him, not the state, who undermine public trust with endless sanctimony and selective outrage.
This is the real insult to Daphne. Not the Labour government. Not the courts. But the opportunists who’ve built careers off her death, turning grief into political capital and justice into performance.
We will never hear from Daphne again. But we’ve heard enough from those who pretend to speak for her, rewriting facts, erasing complexity, and scorning anything that resembles balance or truth.
Justice is being served. The system is working. The rest is noise.
