Robert Aquilina to Be Arraigned in Court Over Domestic Violence and Illegal Arrest of His Wife

Robert Aquilina, notary to the Archdiocese of Malta and prominent public figure, will be arraigned in court in early July on charges of domestic violence and the illegal arrest of his wife, as reported by ILLUM and confirmed by police sources.

The arraignment follows a disturbing incident that occurred last weekend, during which a formal risk assessment concluded that the victim’s life and safety were in serious danger. Investigators believe this was not an isolated case, but part of a broader pattern of sustained abuse.

Police sources who contacted this portal revealed that on 23 May 2024, while the couple was queuing to board a Ryanair flight from Catania to Malta, Aquilina was witnessed engaging in a heated and aggressive confrontation with his wife. Eyewitnesses described how the situation escalated face-to-face, with Aquilina visibly angered and his wife trying to de-escalate and avoid further confrontation. She urged him to stop, but he reportedly became even more hostile.

In recent days, this site has raised deep concerns over an increasingly alarming pattern being reported by women across Malta and Gozo: men addicted to extreme, violent, and degrading pornography attempting to recreate abusive and coercive behaviours with their partners. Sources close to this case now allege that the Aquilina domestic violence investigation may be linked to this disturbing trend.

This casts the allegations against Aquilina in an even darker light—suggesting not just momentary rage, but an embedded mindset of control and domination, possibly influenced by dehumanising media and a culture of hidden misogyny.

As the case progresses, serious questions now arise—not only about Aquilina’s
personal conduct, but also about the hypocrisy of his public persona as a defender of rule of law and human rights.

The public and the institutions he represents deserve full transparency and accountability.
