Neglected Monument. Funds for terrorists, none for heritage

Look at the state of the Great Siege Monument in Valletta. A national monument, a historic symbol that is supposed to be guarded and preserved under Maltese law, now left in filth, neglect, and utter abandonment.

Where is Heritage Malta? Where is the Ministry for Culture? They exist in name only, busy issuing statements about heritage protection while ignoring the decaying reality in the heart of our capital city. The Great Siege Monument has been left to rot for seven long years, gathering dirt, debris, and stains that shame our nation’s identity.

Thousands of tourists visit Malta every single day. They stand in front of this monument – expecting to see honour, dignity, and care for our history – only to witness scandalous neglect. It is an embarrassment to every Maltese citizen who still has pride in our national symbols.

This is what happens when a Ministry for Culture prioritises irrelevant sponsorships over its duty to protect heritage. They find money to sponsor Mark Camilleri, a psychological terrorist who runs a website that terrorises politicians and professionals. They funnel €25,000 of public funds into the pockets of a man who thrives on intimidation, but they cannot find the funds to clean, preserve, and protect the Great Siege Monument – a sacred site in our history.

The authorities have failed. Heritage Malta has failed. The Ministry for Culture has failed. Their legacy is dirt, neglect, and abandonment of our national memory.

The people deserve answers: Why is there money for psychological terrorists but not for Malta’s monuments?
