Electricity Cuts Happen Everywhere, Delia – Try Travelling

Adrian Delia is at it again – whining on Facebook about electricity cuts as if Malta is the only country on Earth experiencing power strain during extreme heatwaves. This time, he declared:

“In the Summer of 2025, another power outage. Unrelenting heat, elderly people at risk, families unable to sleep peacefully… Not just a power outage, but evidence of a failing system.”

Delia’s ignorance is astounding. If he ever travelled beyond his Naxxar doorstep, he would know that electricity cuts are happening worldwide as heatwaves batter countries with record-breaking temperatures. In Here in Turkey last Friday, entire districts lost power due to daily temperatures exceeding 50°C. Italy, Spain, Greece, and even advanced Gulf states are facing similar strains on their grids.

But let’s talk about Malta – and the truth Delia ignores:

Under Labour, Malta shifted from heavy fuel oil to natural gas, slashing pollution and stabilising supply.

Labour built the Electrogas power station, a project the PN blocked for years, giving Malta reliable baseload power and energy diversification.

Labour invested in the interconnector with Sicily, ensuring Malta can import electricity and reduce dependency on single sources.

Recent expansions in renewable energy incentives and grid upgrades are underway to futureproof Malta’s supply.

Adrian Delia talks about planning. Where was his planning when the PN was in Government for 25 long years, leaving Malta reliant on filthy fuel oil and an ageing Delimara plant that could barely keep the lights on during mild summers?

Today, Malta’s energy grid is not “failing” – it is under historic strain from record heat, just like the rest of Europe. But instead of recognising the real climate challenges, Delia prefers cheap, opportunistic posts to appear relevant.

The only truth in Delia’s rant is his thank you to the workers fixing the faults. Because it is thanks to Labour’s energy reforms and investments that those workers now operate a modernised grid, not the crumbling, oil-choked disaster the PN left behind.

Adrian Delia should stop exploiting the heat to gain relevance and start learning how the world actually works. Electricity cuts happen in every country – the difference is that Malta under Labour has prepared, invested, and continues to build for the future.
