The Nationalist Party has once again tried to hijack a serious national issue for its petty political gain — this time, under the false banner of “public safety.” But make no mistake: the real danger to Malta’s safety, stability, and progress is a Nationalist Party anywhere near the reins of power.
In their latest press conference, the PN had the gall to criticise the Labour Government for its work on road safety, sea enforcement, and public infrastructure — areas where they themselves failed catastrophically when they were last in power.
Let’s not forget: when the PN ruled Malta, police stations were shut down, roads were crumbling, maritime enforcement was non-existent, and enforcement authorities were treated like beggars. Education campaigns? Zero. Long-term safety strategy? A fantasy. And public investment in infrastructure? Only if it benefitted their inner circle.

Labour Governs
Labour Acts. PN Complains.
The truth is that the Labour Government has spent over a decade rebuilding what the PN left in ruins:
• Modernised roads, upgraded with safety features and intelligent traffic systems
• Expanded maritime patrols and modern equipment for AFM and Transport Malta
• Rebuilt and reopened police stations in high-density and rural zones
• Bodycams, CCTV, new vehicles, better training — all delivered
• Massive public campaigns on safe driving, boating, and pedestrian awareness
The PN — which left law enforcement understaffed and underequipped — now has the audacity to say we need more investment in safety? Spare us the hypocrisy.
Fearmongering Is Not a Plan
This latest PN outburst is nothing but the politics of fear and fiction. With no proposals, no figures, and no strategy, they attempt to stoke public anxiety with cheap soundbites.
It’s a classic Nationalist tactic: weaponise concern, create panic, and pretend they have solutions. But the public remembers what “solutions” under the PN really meant — cuts, neglect, and excuses.
Let’s Be Blunt: Malta Is Safer Without PN in Charge
Under Labour, Malta is safer, stronger, and more prepared than ever. And that’s exactly what frightens the PN — because they thrive in chaos, but Labour delivers order.
This is the party that gutted enforcement and now cries crocodile tears for victims of road or sea accidents. Their credibility is not just damaged — it’s beyond repair.
The real threat to Malta’s safety isn’t on the roads or in the harbours. It’s in the PN’s ambition to return to power without a plan, without a clue, and without an ounce of responsibility.
So when the PN talks about public safety, remember this:
The only thing unsafe is letting the PN anywhere near power again.
Editor’s Note:
The Nationalist Party’s attempt to posture as a champion of safety is not only dishonest — it’s dangerous. This editorial is a reminder that the same PN now pretending to care, once crippled Malta’s enforcement agencies and neglected basic infrastructure.
Their sudden concern is not leadership. It’s political survival. And Malta deserves far better.
