Every time Robert Aquilina raises his head, he will find us waiting — ready to shove it back into the sewer where it belongs.
By day, he parades as the respectable Notary of the Curia. By night, he returns home to terrorise and abuse his wife. Yet yesterday, this hypocrite had the audacity to post online:
“You cannot be honest and give in to the blackmail, attacks and slander of the mafia octopus that is holding our country in a vice.”
The nerve of this coward is astonishing. He dares to preach about honesty while living a double life — one where his wife’s forgiveness shields him from the full consequences of his violence.
Two Months Ago: The Night of Screams
Let us remind the public of the events that unfolded just two months ago at the home of the so-called guardian of justice.
It was an ordinary evening — until screams were heard from the residence of Notary Robert Aquilina. Those screams were so loud that the Police fixed-point stationed outside his home heard them.
Mrs. Aquilina appeared at the door, desperate to escape. Her husband tried to hold her back, telling Police that nothing had happened. But she broke free, running straight to the officers, who immediately escorted her to the station.
There, she filed a formal report stating that her husband had locked her in the bedroom, threatened her, and physically assaulted her.
She revealed that this was not an isolated incident — but a pattern spanning years. She described Aquilina as possessive and controlling, interrogating her about who she spoke to and even locking her in rooms until she gave him the information he wanted.
Justice Bent to Protect Him
In any normal domestic violence case, the victim’s report triggers an immediate risk assessment. The results would typically see the accused arrested on the spot and brought before court.
But not in this case.
In open violation of established procedure, Magistrate Kevan Azzopardi decided against immediate arrest — simply because this was the first formal report made against Aquilina. The law bent, the process broken — all to protect one man.
The Coward We Will Not Let Forget
Robert Aquilina can write all the pompous statements he wants, hiding behind his manufactured image of a “moral crusader.” But the truth is now part of the record:
• He is a wife-beater.
• He has illegally detained his spouse.
• And he enjoys a level of protection that ordinary Maltese citizens would never dream of.
We will continue to drag this coward into the light, over and over again. The public deserves to know the full truth, no matter how desperately others try to bury it.
