Editorial: The Police Were Right to Cut Off Robert Aquilina

Robert Aquilina is crying wolf again. The self-styled “defender of democracy” is now busy accusing the Police Corps of endangering his life, when in reality the only person who has ever endangered his family is himself. This is the same man arraigned in court for domestic violence and the illegal arrest of his own wife — and yet, with shameless hypocrisy, he dares lecture the Police about responsibility.

Robert Aquilina: The Wife-Beater

Let’s call this what it is: a political stunt from a man who thrives on victimhood. He wants the Maltese people to believe that he is under constant threat, when in truth the only threat he faces is to his own credibility.

Commissioner Angelo Gafà was absolutely right to terminate Aquilina’s police protection. Why should taxpayer resources be wasted on a man who spends every waking hour insulting the Police, undermining state institutions, and poisoning national unity with his extremist rhetoric? Protection is not a political toy. It is not a reward for loudmouths. It is a privilege, based on real necessity, not on Aquilina’s inflated ego.

Aquilina wants to frighten the public with talk of “responsibility” lying on the Commissioner’s shoulders. But the Maltese people are not fools. They can see that his words are nothing but desperate blackmail — an attempt to make himself relevant at a time when his influence is slipping away.

Commissioner Gafà has shown courage and principle. He put the country first, the institution first, and fairness first. The decision to cut Aquilina’s protection was the correct one, and it sends a clear message: those who constantly attack the Police and insult our institutions cannot expect special treatment.

Robert Aquilina is becoming A Challenge to Malta’s Stability.

This site stands firmly with the Police Corps and its Commissioner. Fascists cannot be treated as saints, and Robert Aquilina will not be allowed to rewrite reality to suit his agenda. Malta deserves stability and order, not the chaos of one man’s crusade for attention.
