Labour’s Call to Leverage Malta’s Digital Economy for Jobs and Growth

Labour Party delegation yesterday toured the preparations for the SiGMA conference, set to open today at the Mediterranean Maritime Hub in Marsa. The visit underscored the party’s commitment to fostering a dynamic, modern economy that creates real opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan youth.

Deputy Leader for Party Affairs Alex Agius Saliba stressed that Malta’s digital and gaming sector is a pillar of our economic strategy. By cultivating high-quality career paths in these industries, Malta can empower young people with meaningful work at home, rather than pushing them to seek opportunities abroad.

Beyond immediate employment, Saliba highlighted the broader economic upside of such flagship events. Large conferences attract investment, stimulate local services, and boost tourism-related revenue. They also provide a platform for Maltese workers to showcase skills on an international stage, reinforcing Malta’s reputation as a hub for innovation and talent.

The Labour Party believes that sustained support for the digital and gaming sectors, paired with robust training and apprenticeships, will translate into lasting prosperity for communities across Malta and Gozo. By aligning policy with industry needs, we can ensure that growth is inclusive, accessible, and beneficial to all.
