In Memory of Sharon Ellul Bonici

Malta has lost a remarkable woman. Sharon Ellul Bonici passed away only a few days ago, leaving behind not just her family and loved ones, but also a legacy of courage, conviction, and resilience that marked her public and personal life.

Sharon was more than a politician and activist. She was a mother, a friend, and a voice for many who felt unrepresented. She entered politics at a time when strong, independent female voices were not easily welcomed, but she made her mark through determination and perseverance.

Her work in European politics, especially her tireless efforts to bring Malta closer to a wider vision of cooperation, reflected her passion for fairness and justice. At home, she was equally known for her straightforwardness and the ability to speak her mind without fear or hesitation – qualities that earned her both admiration and respect.

Sharon also knew profound personal grief. The loss of her son some years ago was a tragedy that no parent should ever face. Yet, even in her suffering, she carried herself with dignity, a testament to her strength of character and her deep love for her family.

Her untimely passing at just 55 is a loss not only for those who knew her personally but also for our country. Sharon’s life story reminds us that public service is not about convenience or comfort, but about conviction and the courage to stand for what you believe in.

To her children, family, and loved ones, we extend our deepest condolences. Sharon’s memory will live on – in her words, in her deeds, and in the example of resilience she has left behind.

May she rest in peace.
