In recent days, the Police, under the direction of the Ministry for Home Affairs, have been carrying out random document inspections on public transport. While this initiative has sparked debate among some expat communities, for us Maltese citizens it represents a step in the right direction – a concrete action in the fight against illegal immigration.
This is not about creating unnecessary fear or discomfort. This is about protecting our country, our families, and our society. Illegal immigration is a reality that brings with it complex challenges, and it is the duty of the authorities to act firmly yet fairly. Random inspections are one of the most effective tools to identify irregularities, enforce the law, and send a clear message that Malta will not tolerate abuse.
The Police deserve full credit for their professional approach in conducting these checks, ensuring they are done respectfully while upholding national security. The Ministry for Home Affairs is showing determination by prioritising the safety and stability of our communities.

At a time when Europe struggles to manage migration flows, Malta is taking responsible measures to safeguard its people. Far from being a cause for controversy, this initiative should be recognised for what it truly is: a strong and necessary action to defend our borders, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that our society remains secure and orderly.
This Government has once again proven that it places the interests of Maltese citizens first.

Ex-pats should get used to our rule of law and not the other way round.
