Labour’s International Secretary Appointed to the Presidium of the Socialist International
The Labour Party’s International Secretary, John Grech, has been appointed as a member of the Presidium of the Socialist International — the highest decision-making organ of the global movement of progressive and socialist parties, currently led by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
This prestigious appointment marks an important recognition not only of Grech’s personal dedication and diplomatic skill but also of Malta’s respected role within the international socialist family.
Grech, who already serves as Chairman of the Mediterranean Committee within the same organization, has been instrumental in strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation among Mediterranean countries. His efforts have helped to promote values of solidarity, equality, and social justice across the region.
During the latest meeting of the Socialist International held in Madrid, Grech represented Malta with distinction, participating in high-level discussions on global peace, sustainable development, and the challenges facing democratic socialism in the 21st century.
At the same meeting, he proudly announced that Malta will host the upcoming Council of the Socialist International next month, a major international gathering that will bring together political leaders, ministers, and delegates from across the world.
This event will once again place Malta at the heart of international dialogue — a testament to the credibility, respect, and trust that the Labour Party and its representatives have built abroad under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Abela.
John Grech’s growing prominence within the Socialist International underscores Malta’s active and influential role in shaping a fairer and more just global future.
