The War on Fatherhood: How Liberalism is Erasing Family and Faith from Malta

Malta’s Parliament has just voted to erase the word Father from our laws — a symbolic strike against everything that holds our nation together: God, family, and moral order.

What happened in Parliament on Wednesday is not “progress.” It is moral vandalism — the systematic destruction of our values disguised as harmless “gender-neutral language.”

In one sitting, Parliament decided that words like Father, Workman, Salesman and Paternal Authority have no place in Maltese law anymore. The Civil Code will no longer speak of a father’s role or paternal duty — now it’s all just “parental authority.” The Commercial Code will no longer recognize a workman or a salesman, but some vague, sterile “worker” or “salesperson.”

This is not inclusion. It’s erasure.

The erasure of identity.

The erasure of manhood.

The erasure of fatherhood — the pillar of family life.

They tell us this is “modern.” They say it’s about “equality.”

But what it really is, is a war against nature and tradition.

A society that refuses to acknowledge fathers, men, and family roles is a society that no longer believes in anything sacred. What started as a linguistic correction has become a cultural purge — the cleansing of our Christian heritage from the very fabric of our laws.

Liberalism, dressed up as progress, has hollowed out faith, weakened the family, and mocked patriotism. It promises freedom but delivers only confusion, division, and decay. It teaches young people to rebel against their parents, to despise tradition, and to see gender and family as things to “redefine.”

This is how civilizations die — not with an invasion, but with a silent rewriting of words.

Let’s be clear:

We stand for the traditional family — a man, a woman, and their children — the sacred bond that nurtures life, culture, and love.

We believe in Fatherhood — not as a word, but as a calling.

We believe in Motherhood — not as a title, but as a vocation.

We believe in God, Family, and Country — the eternal trinity that holds Malta upright when the world around us collapses into confusion.

To those rewriting our laws:

You can delete words from your books, but you will never erase the truth written in our hearts.

To every father, mother, and child who still believes in decency and divine order — this is your wake-up call. Either we stand up now and reclaim our heritage, or we watch as liberalism poisons another generation with its lies.

I fully agree. What we are witnessing is a cultural shift, under the banner of progressivism, that risks erasing the traditional and distinct roles that have long underpinned family and societal structures. While the pursuit of equal rights for women, the LGBTIQ community, and other marginalised groups is both necessary and just, the wholesale revision of language—particularly the removal of role-specific terminology- does little to advance inclusion. Instead, it undermines the foundational distinctions that give meaning and coherence to social roles. The real challenge lies not in legislating symbolic changes, but in addressing the deeper educational and cultural roots of discrimination. Replacing names will not replace prejudice. What is needed is thoughtful education, not legislative overreach that borders on the absurd.
