I Will Continue to Defend and Protect the Great Siege Monument

With reference to the video footage published online by The Times of Malta, showing me cleaning the Great Siege Monument following the state of disorder and neglect it was placed in by certain individuals, I wish to provide the following clarification:

The Great Siege Monument is a national monument commemorating one of the most significant events in Maltese history — the Great Siege of 1565. It is a symbol of courage, unity, and national resilience. As such, it deserves the utmost respect and protection.

My actions were, and continue to be, guided solely by a sense of civic responsibility and respect for Malta’s cultural heritage. I have undertaken, and will continue to undertake, the cleaning and preservation of the Great Siege Monument because its current state reflects a breach of heritage protection laws.

If such laws are being ignored and no enforcement action is taken, it becomes the duty of responsible citizens to act in defence of our national heritage. What is being done to this monument on a daily basis constitutes an act of cultural and historical sacrilege — one that cannot and should not be tolerated in a country that values its history, identity, and collective memory.

What is even more unacceptable is the attempt to glorify the memory of a woman who represented hatred and division. This was a person who left behind over €100,000 in unpaid taxes — raising serious suspicions of money laundering — who was accused in a serious case of domestic violence, and who was found guilty by a criminal court of a hit-and-run. To allow such a figure to be elevated as a moral authority is an insult to justice, truth, and every citizen who respects the law.

The Great Siege Monument is not a political stage. It is a sacred national symbol, and I will continue to defend it with the same respect and conviction that generations before us have shown towards our nation’s heritage.

First and foremost Dear Embassies, it is none of your business what we do in our country, secondly you should put your money where your mouth is and contribute substantially to erect a monument somewhere else but not on our national monument. You are free to build her one as big as the statue of liberty

    Your Excellencies,

Perhaps someone should remond you why you’re here in our country. Your interference is annoying, uncalled for and misguided.

We do not need your opinion as to what goes and what doesn’t in this country that is hosting you. It is entirely up.to us (our institutions) to take any action on internal matters. Irrespective of what you make out of such matters.

You are evidently clueless on what daphne represented and possibly know nothingg of her cruel nature. But that too is besides the point.

Just keep out of our internal affairs.
