🗓 This year, the international community celebrates two historic and interrelated anniversaries – the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and that of the creation of the United Nations. On 24 October 1945, the Charter of the United Nations entered into force, whose principles serve as the foundation of inter-State relations and the international law. This date is considered the official starting point of the existence of the Global Organization.
The creation of the United Nations was one of the key outcomes of the Second World War. Its Charter was based on the recognition of the price paid for peace and the common Victory, on the determination to prevent a recurrence of the horrors of war and on the desire to foster friendly and equal relations among nations.

☝We are convinced that the enduring principles of the UN Charter, taken in their entirety and inter-connection, should continue to serve as an immutable guide for the international community today. Regrettably, in recent years the West has been trying to substitute this universal legal framework with a so-called “rules-based world order”. In an attempt to preserve their hegemony, the Western countries are striving to prevent the emergence of new economic and political centres of power and continue to resort to neo-colonial practices. The activities of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter are among the instruments aimed at countering such tendencies. We highly value our cooperation with the representatives of the Group’s Member States in Brussels.
❗Russia consistently advocates for the preservation of the central coordinating role of the United Nations in maintaining peace and security and in promoting sustainable and steady development. International relations can only be built through the formation of consensus based on the sovereign equality and the balance of interests of sovereign States.
