A Government That Invests in the Future: Labour’s Green Commitment for Malta

When a government places the largest capital investment in the environment, it is making more than a policy choice. It is declaring a national priority. As Environment Minister Miriam Dalli rightly stated:

“There is no clearer commitment than that of a Government that gives the greatest capital vote to the environment.”

A Budget Built on Responsibility and Vision

Budget 2026 signals a decisive shift toward long-term environmental stewardship. The capital vote is focused where it matters most:

Clean and secure energy

Quality open spaces

Modern waste management

Protection and management of water resources

These are not luxuries. They are foundations of a modern, healthy, resilient country.

And Labour is delivering them.

Two New National Parks — A Historic Step

This government is thinking big.

For the first time in decades, Malta is setting in motion the creation of two national parks:

White Rocks National Park

Manoel Island National Park

These projects are more than green lungs. They are a promise that Malta’s children will inherit a country that respects its land, its people, and its future.

Leadership That Acts, Not Talks

Minister Miriam Dalli’s commitment is clear:

“A capital vote to invest in energy, open spaces, waste management and water resources… This is my commitment and that of this Government under the leadership of Robert Abela.”

In a world where environmental policy is often reduced to slogans and photo-ops, Labour is choosing action. Concrete projects. Real investment. A 2026 Budget that reflects responsibility, sustainability, and long-term thinking.

A Greener Malta Is a Stronger Malta

This is what leadership looks like. This is what national responsibility feels like, and this is why Labour remains the only political force with a credible, serious, and ambitious plan for Malta’s environmental future.

Because protecting the environment isn’t a side issue. It is the backbone of a modern nation.

Under Robert Abela’s leadership, Labour is not just planting trees. It is planting a vision. A vision of a cleaner, greener, healthier Malta for today’s families and tomorrow’s generations.

Dear Miriam, you together with your team, have put a great effort to improve our environment and providing more places to improve our wellbeing.

Unfortunately after the investment from the taxpayers’ monies, we are turning parks into mass entertainment centres, disrupting nature because of pitching gala tents, permission for cars and heavy vehicles to enter the areas, equipment, sound pollution, light pollution and over crowding the areas.

Not to mention the promotion of obesity because food trucks and stalls are not missing in these events.

A park should remain a park where humans meet nature.

The local philosophy should change. We need to look into providing underground car parks with a small membership fee and clear our town centres from car parking. Town centres should be the community hub. We should also be vigilant and enforce strict rules that all activities stop by 2300hrs.

When will we start thinking smarter?
