Earlier today, I met with Professor Ghassan Al-Qaimari, recently appointed Director of the American University of Malta, whose career brings strong international credibility to the institution.
An Australian citizen with academic training in the United States and the United Kingdom, Professor Al-Qaimari earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Detroit Mercy and his PhD from Heriot-Watt University. He previously held a tenured faculty position at RMIT University in Australia and visiting appointments at the Australian National University and leading European universities.
A prolific researcher and senior academic leader, he has collaborated with global industry leaders such as IBM, Telstra, and Mercedes-Benz, secured significant competitive research funding, and led programs aligned with American and Australian accreditation standards.
His appointment further strengthens the American University of Malta’s international profile and its alignment with high-quality Western higher education systems.
