Editorial : Metsola Gets Trumped

During the inauguration of President Donald Trump, Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, stated that Europe is prepared to collaborate with the United States as allies and partners, aiming to reinforce the transatlantic alliance and foster a world characterized by stability, opportunity, and hope.

Interestingly, Roberta Metsola, alongside figures like Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas, often criticized as proponents of war, were not present at Trump’s inauguration event.

It has been widely speculated that Trump’s focus will pivot more towards China, and possibly Russia, rather than the economically struggling European Union.

In Metsola’s declaration of Europe’s readiness to partner with the USA, a touch of convenience can be detected—particularly since the USA’s enthusiasm to engage with the EU appears tempered. This is especially noticeable when dealing with leaders such as Ursula von der Leyen, who had close ties to President Joe Biden’s administration.

Europe seems to face new challenges alone, while countries like Russia, China, and the United States are poised to steer global political narratives.
