Analysis of Biden Administration’s LGBT & DEI Program Spending

According to data from the federal database USASpending.gov, between FY2021 and FY2024, the US government allocated approximately $4.8 billion to grants, direct payments, and loans related to LGBTQ+ and transgender issues. The majority of this funding, amounting to $4.18 billion, was awarded by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Additionally, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded $101.6 million towards these initiatives.

The Biden administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) has allocated over $100 million in grants to restorative justice, social emotional learning and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts in K-12 schools, a parents’ rights group found Thursday

In terms of DEI-related grants, the database lists a total of 1,225 grants amounting to over $2 billion between FY2021 and FY2024. Of this amount, $1.35 billion was awarded by HHS, with an additional $6.13 million awarded by USAID.

Furthermore, under President Biden’s leadership, the US government expanded its international LGBTQ+ advocacy efforts. This included increased funding for LGBTQ+ organizations in Ukraine, collaboration with over 30 civil society groups worldwide through the Multi-Donor LGBTI Global Human Rights Initiative, and initiatives promoting LGBTQ+ rights in various countries such as Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Serbia’s Kosovo.

Additionally, training programs on LGBTQ+ rights were conducted for government officials in Guatemala, and inclusive care services were provided for transgender individuals in several countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, and South Africa.

Meanwhile, The U.S. Department of Education has taken action to eliminate harmful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including references to them in public-facing communication channels and its associated workforce. These actions are in line with President Trump’s ongoing commitment to end illegal discrimination and wasteful spending across the federal government. They are the first step in reorienting the agency toward prioritizing meaningful learning ahead of divisive ideology in schools.
