Once again, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has chosen to regurgitate the worn-out rhetoric of the Daphne Caruana Galizia cult — a narrative that has been shamelessly repackaged and repurposed for years to suit political agendas. In their latest statement, RSF calls on the Maltese authorities to “ramp up efforts toward convicting the mastermind” behind Caruana Galizia’s murder and to implement recommendations from the public inquiry.

These aren’t just words — they are a near-verbatim echo of the demands and mantras propagated by those who’ve built an entire regime around her legacy. This is not journalism advocacy. It’s political activism, masquerading as press freedom defense.
Let’s make this crystal clear — once and for all.
Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder was a tragedy. But it is disingenuous to pretend that the state bears responsibility for her death when the facts suggest otherwise. The Maltese government had offered her protection on multiple occasions. She refused. Repeatedly.

Daphne Caruana Galizia
Why? Because she genuinely believed she was untouchable. She thought she didn’t need the protection of the very state she so often criticized. That arrogance proved fatal. The blame lies with the criminals who orchestrated and carried out the assassination — and they are facing justice in court, one by one.
Vincent Muscat, the Degiorgio brothers, Robert Agius, Jamie Vella — all have been convicted or are undergoing prosecution. The process of justice is underway. It is working. And no amount of NGO posturing or foreign pressure will alter the core truth: the state cannot be blamed for the conscious, defiant choices of a journalist who repeatedly rejected its security.
What is infuriating is how RSF and others continue to distort this reality — ignoring the role that personal judgment and repeated state offers of protection played in this tragedy. Caruana Galizia’s disregard for her own safety is now being conveniently erased from the narrative. That selective memory is not only dishonest — it is dangerous.

This site will continue to speak plainly and reject the political beatification of one journalist to the exclusion of all context, fact, and accountability.
Journalism deserves protection. But it also deserves truth.
