Labour’s Momentum Surges While the PN Risks Political Suicide

The latest MaltaToday political survey, published on Sunday, is more than just a snapshot of public opinion, it is a resounding vote of confidence in the Labour Party’s direction, leadership, and national standing. With a commanding 13.6-point lead over the Nationalist Party, the Labour movement is not simply holding ground—it is growing stronger.

According to the survey, 38,802 more Maltese voters would choose Labour over the PN if elections were held today. This figure is no statistical fluke. It is the direct result of strategic leadership, disciplined governance, and political unity.

In stark contrast, the Opposition is fragmented, rudderless, and disconnected from the people it claims to represent. While Labour continues to govern, deliver, and lead with purpose, the Nationalist Party remains caught in a web of its own confusion. It has no message, no direction, and increasingly, no hope.

Bernard Grech

Bernard Grech’s approval rating stands at a dismal 18.8%—the worst since February 2024, when he plummeted to 16.7%. These numbers reflect a growing public disillusionment with a party that appears more focused on internal squabbles than on offering any credible alternative.

Yet the worst move the PN could make right now would be to push Bernard Grech out—either by resignation or a no-confidence motion. With general elections on the horizon, replacing the party leader would ignite a fresh civil war within the PN ranks. The fallout would be catastrophic. Blood would be shed metaphorically, but the political damage would be very real. Such a move would shatter what little cohesion remains, plunging the party into chaos at the very moment it should be rallying its troops.

Instead of gearing up for a national campaign, the PN would be too busy fighting itself to even draft a coherent strategy. The result? Another massive electoral defeat, perhaps the worst yet.
