The same party that gave us recession and mass unemployment now pretends to care about working families
The Nationalist Party stood in front of the cameras on Friday, putting on its usual show — this time pretending to be the champion of Maltese and Gozitan families struggling with the cost of living.
Let’s be very clear: the PN has zero credibility to speak about the economy, let alone about social justice.
This is the same party that:
Froze wages for years
Raised utility bills by 70%
Let unemployment spiral
Watched the middle class sink and did nothing
Today they cry crocodile tears about “soaring costs”, when in reality, they’re furious that Labour continues to grow the economy, keep unemployment at record lows, and maintain fuel and energy subsidies that protect families.
What the PN Won’t Say
The PN doesn’t tell you what they would actually do differently. Because we already know:
Remove subsidies — just like they did before
Let energy prices rise — just like they did before
Slash public investment — just like they did before
Privatise everything — so their friends can profit again
They talk about inflation, but Malta has one of the lowest inflation rates in the eurozone thanks to Labour’s interventionist policies.
They talk about poverty — but poverty exploded under PN rule, especially after the 2008 crisis which they handled with complete incompetence.
This Is Pure Hypocrisy
The PN’s sudden concern for families is as fake as their promises. This is not about the people. This is about power, bitterness, and spin.
They hate the fact that:
Malta’s economy continues to grow
The government is supporting families with energy stability
Tourism is booming
Unemployment is almost non-existent
Foreign agencies consistently rate Malta’s economy as stable and resilient
So instead of offering serious proposals, they resort to fearmongering, hoping the public forgets their track record.
But we haven’t forgotten.
The cost of living is a challenge — globally. But the real danger for Malta is not inflation.
It’s the return of a failed Nationalist Party that wrecked our economy, sold out our people, and now pretends to have all the answers.
The PN didn’t care about working families when it was in power.
Why should anyone believe they care now?
