The Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) has declared war — not just on KM Malta Airline, but on every single taxpayer and traveler in this country.
At the height of Malta’s summer tourism season, ALPA ordered industrial action, deliberately disrupting services and causing delays at the airport. Why? Because they want more — after already being handed millions in golden payouts.
Let that sink in.
These same pilots, many of whom are coasting toward early retirement with six-figure cheques in hand, are now threatening to hold the nation hostage. And for what? More perks. More privileges. More power.

Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana
Finance Minister Clyde Caruana is absolutely right to call this what it is: greed. And he is right not to bow to it.
Less than two years ago, government stepped in to honour legacy obligations tied to Air Malta — payouts worth millions to retiring pilots. That’s public money. Our money. And now, these same individuals are actively sabotaging the very airline that is trying to survive and grow.
This isn’t negotiation.
It’s extortion in uniform.
Caruana is trying to ensure that KM Malta Airline doesn’t collapse under the same bloated entitlements that sank Air Malta. He’s protecting the taxpayer, the airline, and the country’s economic stability — not caving in to a privileged few who believe the world owes them eternal compensation.
If the pilots’ union thinks it can cripple a national airline to squeeze more out of the public purse, it’s time for government to hit back — and hit back hard. Legal action should not just be on the table. It should be immediate.
Enough is enough. The country cannot be held hostage by an entitled elite flying on golden parachutes.
Full support to Minister Clyde Caruana for standing firm. Malta deserves a future — not another crash landing at the hands of arrogant unions.
