A Safe Space for Youth: Julia Farrugia Steps In to Help

A commitment to youth, heritage, and community spirit

The Ministry for Inclusion and Social Wellbeing, led by Hon. Julia Farrugia, is taking swift and commendable action to preserve a cherished institution in the heart of Rabat — the Rabat Girl Guides branch.

Following a recent visit and discussion with representatives of the Rabat Girl Guides, Minister Farrugia announced that her Ministry will immediately step in to address structural damages affecting the group’s premises. This initiative not only ensures the safety of the members and volunteers but also reaffirms the government’s strong support for youth organisations that serve as cornerstones of community life.

The Rabat Girl Guides have long played an important role in promoting values of leadership, responsibility, and solidarity among Malta’s youth. As they approach their 65th anniversary, Minister Farrugia’s intervention sends a strong message of encouragement and respect for voluntary organisations who dedicate their time and energy to shaping future generations.

This initiative also reflects the broader vision of the Ministry — ensuring that inclusion is not just a policy, but a lived experience, rooted in community engagement and practical support. Minister Farrugia’s hands-on approach demonstrates how public institutions can act as enablers of grassroots initiatives, ensuring that no organisation doing good work is left behind.

As the restoration work begins and preparations for the 65th anniversary get underway, this moment marks both a celebration of the past and an investment in the future — a future where youth empowerment, social wellbeing, and inclusion remain at the heart of national priorities.
