Hon. Rosianne Cutajar and Minister Michael Falzon Discuss Stronger Family Support Through Enhanced Parental Leave

Hon. Rosianne Cutajar held a productive meeting this morning with Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon, focusing on practical measures to strengthen family well-being—chief among them, more robust and longer parental leave.

Following the meeting, Hon. Cutajar highlighted the shared commitment to policies that give children the best possible start in life. “We discussed, among many things, the need to strengthen and increase parental leave so that our children receive the best upbringing from their parents,” she said, underscoring the social and developmental benefits of enabling parents to be present during a child’s earliest months.

Hon. Cutajar emphasized the importance of removing barriers that prevent mothers from fully enjoying and nurturing their babies during this crucial period. “How wonderful and important it would be to remove all obstacles so that the mother can raise and enjoy her baby in those first important months after birth,” she noted, calling for a framework that respects both family needs and modern work realities.

She added that bolstering parental leave is not only a social policy improvement but a cultural investment in family life. “I believe that measures such as these are the first important step in restoring the love and joy of raising our children.”

Minister Falzon and Hon. Cutajar expressed a shared vision to continue working on policies that place families at the heart of Malta’s social agenda—ensuring that parents have the time, support, and peace of mind to nurture the next generation.
