For years, the Great Siege Monument in Valletta – one of Malta’s most symbolic and historic monuments – was hijacked and disrespected by Occupy Justice and the Defnisti. Instead of treating it as a sacred site, they used it as their private billboard for their endless hate campaigns.
This was not activism. It was vandalism.
It was not patriotism. It was abuse of a national treasure.
Their actions turned a monument of national pride into a stage for petty politics, stripping it of the respect it deserves. The Great Siege Monument is not theirs to exploit – it belongs to the Maltese and Gozitan people.
Thankfully, the authorities have once again done what needed to be done. The rubbish, the clutter, the disrespect – all cleared away. The monument has been cleaned, restored, and brought back to the dignity it deserves.
And today, as we look at the Monument, we see it as it should be:
- A National Monument maintained with pride, like any other across the world.
- A Monument venerated with the honour that the Great Siege and our ancestors deserve.
- A Monument that has returned to the hands of the Maltese and Gozitan people.
This is how a nation shows respect for its history. This is how Malta honours its heroes.
Long live the memory of the Great Siege.
Long live the pride of our people.
