James Debono has once again exposed himself as a man of double standards. Writing in Saviour Balzan’s MaltaToday, Debono declared that “political violence is wrong but we are under no obligation to mourn Kirk.”
He vents his frustration that Charlie Kirk is being mourned in the US and Europe. According to Debono, mourning Kirk is not a duty. He coldly wrote: “While I condemn the assassination, I would never mourn someone who said these things.”
His example? Kirk’s words: “prowling Blacks who go around for fun to go target white people.” Kirk said the truth. Only days ago, a Ukrainian woman in America was murdered by a black man. Kirk was calling out a reality. But Debono prefers moral grandstanding.
Then Debono continues: “One can feel sorry for his family for their loss, but it stops there. Political violence in democratic states however imperfect they are, is repulsive and wrong, but mourning Kirk is not a moral duty.”

And here comes the million-dollar question:
James Debono, if mourning Charlie Kirk is not a moral duty, why did you and your Defnisti friends turn Daphne Caruana Galizia into a saint?
On Tuesday 16th September 2025, it will be 95 months since the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia – the so-called “Empress of Malice.” Her entire career was built on hate, bullying, and the deliberate destruction of people and families.

Daphne Caruana Galizia
She was not a martyr. She was an oppressor and a tax-evading hate blogger who thrived on cruelty. Her legacy is not noble. Her legacy is one of prejudice and venom, celebrated in life and carried into death.
As we have always stated: “Speak honestly of the dead, even if it means speaking ill of them.” If James Debono truly believes what he wrote about Charlie Kirk, then he should have the courage to apply the same standard to Daphne Caruana Galizia. But we all know he doesn’t have the balls to do it.
Instead, he continues to acknowledge the glorification of a woman who was charged with domestic violence, exposed for tax evasion, and acted for decades as the PN’s corruption gatekeeper. The Defnisti can polish that turd all they want – but a turd it remains.

Daphne Caruana Galizia
The truth must be told. Daphne Caruana Galizia’s so-called legacy is one of hatred and destruction. And James Debono’s hypocrisy only confirms that for him and for MaltaToday, “mourning” is not about values – it’s about politics.
