Chris Bonett and the Labour Government: Putting Road Safety First

The Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Abela continues to show that road safety is not just a slogan, but a concrete priority. Yesterday, the second reading of a crucial draft law was passed in Parliament—one that will tighten the legal framework against those who drive under the influence of alcohol or substances.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Chris Bonett is at the forefront of this effort. His work shows that the Labour Government is not only investing in our roads and infrastructure, but also ensuring that safety and responsibility come hand in hand.

In a clear example of collaboration between Government and professionals, Minister Bonett met with Doctors for Road Safety to discuss how prevention and education must go side by side with law enforcement. The message is simple: investment in roads must always be matched with investment in people’s lives.

The new road safety strategy, which will be announced in the coming months, is being built on three strong pillars:

  • Stricter laws to keep reckless drivers off the road.

  • Better infrastructure to reduce risks and improve traffic management.

  • National educational campaigns to change attitudes and create a culture of responsibility.

This is what leadership looks like—listening, planning, and delivering. Chris Bonett and the Labour Government are once again proving that their priority is not empty talk, but tangible action for the safety and wellbeing of families across Malta and Gozo.

The road ahead is clear: safer, stronger, and guided by a Government that works for the people.
