Matthew Caruana Galizia: The Hypocrite Rewarded by the Government He Insults

He cries corruption, yet benefits from the very system he condemns.

The ENDEAVOUR II Scholarships Scheme, co-funded by the European Union through the ESF+ (2021–2027), is designed to reward merit and support good quality postgraduate education. Among the successful candidates stands Matthew Caruana Galizia, ranked fourth with  450/500 score.

For years, the Caruana Galizia name has been treated like sacred scripture,  beyond reproach, immune to criticism, and weaponised by an inner circle of activists and partisan journalists. To question them was heresy; to disagree meant exile. Their family’s public narrative has been built on division, accusation, and moral superiority.

And yet, while Matthew Caruana Galizia continues to hurl insults at the Labour Government, branding it “mafia” and “corrupt,” it is this very same Government that judged him fairly, awarded him transparently, and treated him with equality. No bias. No discrimination. Just merit.

Such insults, I have personally received via text messages from Matthew himself on several occasions. It’s a clear reflection of his arrogance and contempt towards anyone who dares to challenge his narrative.

One of Matthew Caruana Galizia’s favourite pastimes is arrogantly writing to the European Commission, lamenting supposed delays in Malta’s judicial process and portraying his country as a failed state. But reality, as always, tells a different story. The tactics of distortion have failed and will continue to fail because facts have a way of prevailing.

And the fact is this: Matthew Caruana Galizia is one of the successful candidates rewarded by this very Government he so often vilifies.

That is the difference between rhetoric and reality.

While the self-appointed “moral guardians” of Malta live off the politics of hatred, Labour Government continues to prove that fairness is not selective, even toward those who despise it.
