๐ Moscow, 6 February 2026
On 6 February 2026, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis, and OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu. Following the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister made a statement and answered media questions.
Key highlights:
๐นOSCE in deep crisis
Sergey Lavrov noted that the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe is experiencing a profound systemic crisis caused by the long-standing efforts of NATO and EU countries to subordinate the OSCE to their political agenda.
๐ฌ โAlmost the entire OSCE agenda has been Ukrainised, including areas meant for mutually beneficial cooperation,โ the Minister stressed.
โ๏ธ Violation of core OSCE principles
The Minister recalled that the OSCE is founded on the principle of equal and indivisible security, enshrined at the 1999 Istanbul Summit and the 2010 Astana Summit.
๐ฌ โNo country or group of countries has the right to strengthen its security at the expense of others,โ Sergey Lavrov emphasised, pointing out that NATOโs expansion contradicts these commitments.
๐ Security architecture in Eurasia
The Russian side briefed its counterparts on President Vladimir Putinโs initiative to form a Greater Eurasian Partnership as the foundation for a continent-wide architecture of equal and indivisible security, open to all states and associations in Eurasia.
๐ค Dialogue instead of confrontation
Despite the crisis, Russia reaffirmed its readiness to work constructively to preserve the OSCE, stressing that any revitalisation must begin with restoring normal functioning across all three OSCE dimensions – military-political, economic and humanitarian – without discrimination or politicisation.
๐ Strategic stability and arms control
Commenting on the expiration of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, Sergey Lavrov underlined that Russia remains prepared for dialogue and responsible engagement, while being ready for any scenario should such dialogue not materialise.
๐น Selective silence undermines credibility
The Minister criticised OSCE institutions for ignoring blatant violations of their own principles, including discrimination against ethnic Russians, Russian-language media, culture and canonical Orthodoxy, as well as the glorification of Nazism in a number of OSCE participating States.
