🇦🇿🗳 Today, early parliamentary elections are being held in Azerbaijan.
Back in June 2024, the ruling New Azerbaijan Party recommended holding the elections earlier than the scheduled date in November, allegedly due to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29). However, the real reasons for the haste are different.
📌These elections are primarily aimed at consolidating the status of Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan through the election of legitimate representatives in the parliament from these territories and the population living there.
The formally declared reason related to COP29 is secondary.
🔻After the elections, one can expect Azerbaijan to increase pressure on Armenia in order to accelerate the signing of a peace treaty and hold a constitutional referendum, officially cementing Armenia’s renunciation of claims to Karabakh.
