Repubblika recently unveiled their manifesto titled ‘Integrity’, a name that certainly piques curiosity.
Before delving into my observations on this document, let’s first establish who exactly Repubblika are.
With a humiliating membership count of 943 individuals, this group stands in stark contrast to the vast numbers associated with popular band clubs in Malta and Gozo. It’s outrageous to see such a relatively small organization take on the mantle of champions for the Rule of Law.
In the Manifesto, Repubblika places a strong emphasis on the implementation of the recommendations stemming from the public inquiry into the tragic assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
You can keep on putting that pressure on the State, but let’s be real here – we’ve got a government that’s as soft as a marshmallow towards Repubblika.
It’s no wonder they’ve started feeling all high and mighty since 2013. Let me reiterate what I said last week: the State isn’t the one to blame for Daphne’s tragic end. If only she hadn’t been so full of herself, maybe she would have accepted some protection, like having a fixed point outside her house.
But hey, who needs common sense when you’ve got a big ego, right?
