It’s disheartening to see how Roberta Metsola, during her time as President of the European Parliament, encouraged Ukraine to persist in the conflict with Russia. The consequences of such actions are devastating, leaving many innocent lives caught in the crossfire.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine had prompted Brussels to engage in continuous communication with Washington in an effort to synchronize their strategies and bolster the Western defenses against Russian aggression.
The unwavering support of President Joe Biden for the trans-Atlantic partnership has been a cornerstone in this collaborative effort.
The European Union and member states have collectively provided military aid amounting to €43.5 billion, facing challenges along the way such as missing the target to deliver one million artillery rounds by March 2024 and a €6.6 billion envelope currently blocked by Hungary.
On the other hand, the bloc has been more successful in distributing financial, economic, and humanitarian support, with €57.8 billion already disbursed and more in the pipeline.
Additionally, the Atlantic partners have taken the lead in pioneering initiatives at the G7 level, including setting a price cap on Russian crude oil and offering a $50 billion (€45 billion) loan for Kyiv with Russia’s frozen assets as collateral.
However, this delicate balance could be jeopardized following Trump’s re-election and follows through on his threat to withdraw American assistance, potentially causing a significant disruption in the established partnerships and efforts.
