“With respect to the blog post published today (29 December 2024), titled “Robert Abela akkost ta’ kollox jikkuntenta lil ta’ Daphne”:
The post includes a photo of my mother and me next to a photo of the Prime Minister and explicitly claims that an out-of-court settlement is being negotiated with the government.
1) My family never, at any point between the assassination and today, discussed, suggested or insinuated the possibility of an out of court settlement with the Prime Minister, Robert Abela, or any other official. Neither was any such settlement ever mentioned, suggested or implied to us.
2) The last meeting my family had with the Prime Minister was almost four years ago, during which we discussed the implementation of the recommendations of the public inquiry board. At no point did anyone mention, suggest or imply an out-of-court settlement. My last email to the Prime Minister regarding my mother’s assassination was sent on 21 December 2021, three years ago. Since then we sent only one other email, on behalf of media organisations, regarding Legal Notice 456.
3) Given the liability that government is exposed to due to deaths on construction sites, failed police investigations into many murders, deaths in custody and egregious corruption, it’s not surprising that the Government of Malta would want such a budget. But you’re barking up the wrong tree, as the out-of-court settlement fund, if it was really requested, I can only assume was requested with others in mind and not me or my family.”
