The Maltese Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD) will convene to deliberate on the well-being of workers in the workplace on an annual basis, with the inaugural meeting scheduled for this upcoming November.

Among the various topics discussed during a recent MCESD meeting, social partners engaged in a comprehensive dialogue regarding key proposals aimed at shaping the future landscape of physical and mental health services in both Malta and Gozo.

In a statement issued by the Health Ministry, it was elucidated that the impetus for these discussions stemmed from a specific request put forth by parliamentary secretary Andy Ellul, who underscored the imperative need for open dialogue concerning the conditions of workers and the profound impact of health on overall productivity levels.

The unanimous acceptance of this proposal not only solidified the decision to hold annual discussions on workplace well-being but also underscored its incorporation into the MCESD calendar as a recurring event.

Ellul, in his remarks, articulated that this initiative represents the genesis of a broader movement towards fostering greater awareness and understanding on this critical subject matter.

He emphasized that the ultimate goal of this endeavor is to bolster workers’ well-being within the workplace milieu and, in turn, cultivate a more serene and conducive working environment.

Ellul further emphasized that any discourse on productivity must inherently encompass the fundamental prerequisite of enabling workers to operate within an atmosphere of tranquillity and support.
