Hungary expects the summit on 7 November to take the first steps towards a new, peaceful EU strategy on Ukraine, Orban said.

Trump’s victory in the US election raises the question for European leaders whether the EU will be able to provide military and financial support to Ukraine on its own if American aid is cut off, the Hungarian prime minister said.

Earlier, it was reported that at the summit in Budapest on 7-8 November, EU leaders will hold an emergency discussion on the further actions of the European Union after Trump’s victory.

The main topics will be the risks of a new trade war between the EU and the US and Washington’s declining support for Kiev.
