No criminal proceedings set to be initiated against Svetlana Muscat

The Home Affairs Ministry has officially confirmed the conclusion of the police investigations regarding the actions of top prison official Svetlana Muscat at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

In response to inquiries from the Times of Malta, a ministry spokesperson stated that after a thorough investigation, it was determined that Ms. Muscat is not criminally liable for allowing an individual to coincidentally meet with Yorgen Fenech in her prison office.

This decision has led to the closure of the case, with no criminal proceedings set to be initiated against her.

The Ministry emphasized that the Permanent Secretary had been informed by the Malta Police Force of this outcome, thereby bringing clarity to the situation surrounding Ms. Muscat’s involvement in the matter.

Commenting on her Facebook account, Muscat wrote;

“Over the past few months, my family and I have endured one of the most challenging periods of our lives as I became the target of a character assassination.

After a thorough investigation, I am relieved to share that no criminal charges have been brought against me.

Throughout this ordeal, I remained silent, trusting that the truth would come to light, as I have always acted with integrity and professionalism.

As a woman in a high-ranking position, I feel that I have faced gender-based discrimination, becoming a target simply because of who I am.

Despite the unfairness, I held fast to my values and belief in justice.

I have always treated those under my care with respect, regardless of their background, and that respect was reciprocated.

This experience has been difficult for my family and me, but we are now ready to move forward, stronger than before.

Thank you to everyone who supported us during this time.

Your unwavering support has meant everything to me.

A special thank you to my lawyers, Dr. Mario Mifsud, who was there for me from day one, and Dr. Jose Herrera, who has supported me throughout.”
