It’s come to my attention that there are some interesting differences in the way holiday greetings are approached around the world.
In the UAE, a Muslim country, they have no qualms about wishing everyone a merry Christmas, while in Christian Western nations, there seems to be a trend towards using more inclusive language like “happy holidays.”
However, what really grinds my gears is the recent shift in London’s biggest Christmas market being referred to as “a winter come together” to avoid causing any potential offense.
It’s absolutely ludicrous that we have to tiptoe around traditions and cultural norms to cater to the overly sensitive. This move towards political correctness is getting out of hand. Christmas is a time to celebrate and spread joy, not to worry about offending someone with a simple greeting. It’s a sad reflection of the state of our society today.
I, for one, will continue to proudly wish everyone a merry Christmas, regardless of where they come from or what they believe in. Let us not allow the joy of the season to be overshadowed by the misguided actions of a vocal minority.
